Professional Profile

Dr. Jonathan Urban is a toxicologist with expertise in pharmacology, molecular biology, and neurosciences. He is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he earned his doctorate degree in toxicology. Dr. Urban’s doctoral thesis focused on investigating unique mechanisms of action of atypical antipsychotic drugs and novel dopaminergic compounds via dopamine D2 receptors. This research involved the development and characterization of different cell lines to study the dopamine D2 receptormediated effects of these compounds, and incorporated diverse biomolecular approaches for evaluating effects on intracellular signal transduction pathways. Dr. Urban also has extensive knowledge of nonpharmacological neurotoxicity factors, especially as they relate to such neurological disorders as Parkinson’s disease and schizophrenia. Since graduating, Dr. Urban has worked as a consulting toxicologist on projects pertaining to the risk assessment of various compounds and contaminants, including dioxins, furans, PCBs, PBDEs, lead, nonylphenol ethoxylates, and various industrial solvents and VOCs. He also provided extensive litigation support for numerous other projects. He is currently employed in this capacity for the consulting firm ToxStrategies.
