Professional Profile

Lauren Fitzgerald is an associate health scientist at ToxStrategies specializing in applications of large biomonitoring and air monitoring datasets and toxicological evaluations of xenobiotics, specifically those associated with pharmaceutical compounds and a number of environmental chemicals. Ms. Fitzgerald has worked considerably with the CDC’s National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) and occupational air monitoring datasets, conducting statistical analyses and applying them to exposure and risk assessment practices. Ms. Fitzgerald has experience in medical device design, tissue and biomaterial engineering with a focus on drug delivery, and construction of computational models of biological processes. She also has extensive laboratory experience involving in vivo stem cell migration models, fluorescence microscopy, and immunoassay design. Ms. Fitzgerald was involved in the manufacture and development of multiple analyte profile immunoassays for biomarker quantification with applications in disease identification and drug design. She earned her degree in Biomedical Engineering from the University of Virginia where her studies focused around biomechanics, biomaterials and biotransport with interests in biotechnology and agriculture. As part of an independent research project, Ms. Fitzgerald designed a novel device used to automate the collection and storage of unique and sensitive samples from an in vitro cone and plate viscometer generated model of atherogenesis.
